The Division of Materials Chemistry of the SCS calls for nominations for the 2024 MatChem PhD Student Award.

Goal of the Award
Featuring rising stars in the fields of Materials Chemistry

Requirements to apply for the Award
Having defended a PhD in the area of Materials Chemistry within Switzerland between January 2023 and end of May 2024. The same person cannot be nominated twice.

Nomination
Candidates are nominated by the PhD advisor. The following documents must be submitted:

  • nomination letter from PhD advisor
  • CV of the candidate
  • the best first author paper of the thesis
  • a seconding nomination letter by an external expert

Nominations must be submitted to by June 1, 2024.

Evaluation criteria

  • Scientific quality and impact of the published work in the field of Materials Chemistry
  • Originality of the published work
  • creativity of the study design or uniqueness of the approaches and concepts employed in the published work
  • clarity of presentation (in a publication)

Evaluation committee
Members of the MatChem board.

Winner / Candidates not considered
The winner as well as all candidates that could not be considered are informed on a personal basis after the evaluation committee meeting (mail and/or letter from the MatChem president).
The winner gets a certificate and a prize money of CHF 1’000.
The winners are invited to present an invited talk within the MatChem session of the SCS Fall Meeting in Fribourg on September 5, 2024.
Two winners are anticipated each year, one sponsored by SIKA, one by VIGOR.

Financing
Through MatChem Division (1000 CHF/year each prize). The prize is sponsored by Sika and Vigor.
