The Division of Fundamental Research

The Division of Fundamental Research of the Swiss Chemical Society is a platform for all chemists involved in fundamental and applied research in the chemical sciences. The division has around 1300 members and hosts the Photochemistry Section, the Swiss Catalysis Section and the Swiss Young Chemists’ Association as sub-units.

Objectives

The aims of the DFR are

  • to offer a network for all researchers in the chemical sciences in Switzerland
  • to promote research in all fields of chemistry, and in particular interdisciplinary collaborations
  • to facilitate the organization of conferences, seminars and courses
  • to stimulate contacts between the different chemistry departments and research units of the Swiss academic institutions and industry
  • to encourage the publication of research results in the journals supported by the society
  • to support syntific conferences of chemistry in Switzerland

Scope

Every year, the DCF organizes two large conferences of the Swiss Chemical Society, the Spring Meeting and the Fall Meeting.
The Fall Meeting is the main scientific meeting of the Swiss Chemical Society. It provides an opportunity for all research chemists in Switzerland and abroad to present their work to a wide audience in the form of oral presentations and posters. The meeting brings together master students, Ph.D. students, postdoctoral researchers and senior scientists from industry and academia. The meeting consists of plenary prize lectures and parallel sessions covering all areas of chemistry.
The Spring Meeting is dedicated to a specific research topic. It is held at the different Swiss universities in turn.
