SCS now has a Public Profile on LinkedIn

We would like to announce that the Swiss Chemical Society from now on has an open access Profile on the Social Media platform LinkedIn. Up to the present there only existed a group forum with exclusive access for our members, which will be replaced with the new profile. Due to improved communication channels we decided to follow through this transfer from a closed Group to an open access. We would like to invite our members to follow the official page Swiss Chemical Society. Prospective posts will be published from now on on the new page to make sure, all of the communication on LinkedIn takes place on one site.

BSPF20 Call for Presentations

Due to the developing situation across the globe, and the associated uncertainties regarding health and safety, transportation, catering, and access issues, we will explore different modalities for this event in due course. For now, we are still planning a physical conference and we hope that things will calm down. We encourage everyone interested to submit their abstracts and of course, we would keep every interested party informed about the further steps.
We wish you, your family, your friends, and everyone around the globe health, well-being, and solidarity.

The 2nd Basel Sustainable Publishing Forum (BSPF2), organized by the University of Basel and MDPI, will be held in Basel, 26–27 October 2020. The aim of the forum is to offer a platform for open and constructive conversation between researchers, learned societies, university librarians, funding agencies, scholarly publishers, publishing platforms, and other concerned stakeholders (professional associations, etc.) to identify implementable solutions for a sustainable global transition to open access.  A main topic of discussion of BSPF2 will be the challenges facing learned societies in this transition to Open Access. The conference will cover a broad array of topics relevant to these challenges, like the development of alternative metrics, the evaluation and promotion of researchers, the OA price transparency, the current situation and limitations of transformative agreements, copyright, etc.

We
would like to invite all relevant stakeholders, especially the research community and representatives of learned societies, to join us and participate by sharing their experience, views, opinions, or results, and, to submit a proposal in response to Call for Presentations, Panels and Posters.

Submissions for presentation panel may be submitted in English to  before 30 June 2020.

We could love to count on your participation at this event! If you have any questions please feel free to visit our conference website or contact .

3rd Employment Survey for European Chemists

The 3rd Employment Survey for European Chemists (ESEC3) is open until 30 April 2020. Participation in this survey is open for all chemists and chemical engineers. This survey looks into the current education and employment situation of chemists and chemical engineers across Europe. Understanding job market needs, the challenges and opportunities facing chemists and what drives people to study and work in their respective fields will prove invaluable to better understand the current landscape. In turn, it will allow those directly impacted, as well as universities, institutions, companies and policymakers to focus their efforts on facilitating or improving certain measures whilst encouraging those that are so far successful. Your participation in this Europe-wide survey will help build a broad yet precise picture of the employment and salary situation of chemists and possibly reveal other cross-cutting issues.

The online survey is available on the following link: https://www.euchems.eu/esec3/.

ChemPubSoc Europe becomes Chemistry Europe: a new look for a new future

ChemPubSoc Europe is proud to announce that from today it becomes Chemistry Europe.  It is unveiling a new identity and a renewed purpose, fit for the future of chemistry and of publishing.

Founded 25 years ago with the creation of Chemistry A European Journal, now the societies’ flagship publication, Chemistry Europe is an association of 16 European chemical societies, representing over 75,000 chemists.

The redefining of our core values and visual representation of our identity has been in motion since June 2018, driven by a team made up of stakeholders from our societies, our Council and from our publishing partner Wiley-VCH.  During the project, researchers and society members were asked about what they value and what they need from their scientific community, learned societies and scholarly journals: the result is Chemistry Europe.

‘To ensure we continue to grow our successful publishing partnership into the future, we have been working together, to redefine our identity and to reflect on our core values and mission. Our aim is to maximise the impact of Chemistry Europe and its journals now and into the future by sharing the broadest range of quality chemistry research to researchers and practitioners across the globe.’ Jan-Willem Toering, Director of KNCV, the Royal Netherlands Chemical Society, and member of the Chemistry Europe Council.

‘Our 16 journals are at the heart of what we do and what we stand for, so to be launching their new identity is a landmark occasion for us.  It clearly showcases the journals as a family, encompassing a very broad range of chemistry disciplines, offering vital research to address global issues such as climate change and energy consumption.’ Professor Dr Wolfram Koch, Executive Director of GDCh, the German Chemical Society, and member of the Chemistry Europe Council.

‘We are delighted to have worked so closely with the societies on this project and feel privileged to have been publishing partners for 25 years.  We move forwards together ready to embrace the open future of science, chemistry and publishing.’
Guido Herrmann, VP and Managing Director, Wiley-VCH.
