In Anerkennung ihrer wissenschaftlichen Leistungen für die Schweizerische Chemie- und Pharmaindustrie erhalten vier Forscher die erstmals im 2013 vergebenen KGF-SCS Industrial Science Awards. Die mit 15'000, 10'000 und 7'000 CHF dotierten Preise gehen alle in den Grossraum Basel. Die höchste Auszeichnung erhält Prof. Dr. Klaus Müller von der F. Hoffmann La-Roche Ltd.

Prof. Dr. Klaus Müller erhält für seine erfolgreichen Bestrebungen qualitativ hochwertige und für beide Seiten gewinnbringende Beziehungen zwischen der Industrie und den Hochschulen herzustellen sowie für seine Pionierarbeit in diversen wichtigen und bahnbrechenden wissenschaftlichen Projekten die höchste Auszeichnung des per 2013 neu eingeführten Auszeichnungsprogramms. Nach seiner Habilitation an der ETH Zürich im Jahr 1977 arbeitete Klaus Müller am Departement für Organische Chemie der ETH bevor er 1982 in die Roche eintrat, wo er unter anderem als Mitglied der Geschäftsleitung und als Generalsekretär der Roche Research Foundation agierte. Seit seiner Pensionierung im Jahr 2009 unterstützt er die Roche als Consultant und lektoriert an der ETH Zürich. Der KGF-SCS Distinguished Industrial Investigator Award ist mit CHF 15'000 dotiert.

 

Den KGF-SCS Senior Industrial Investigator Award, der mit 10'000 dotiert ist, erhalten Dr. Werner Bonrath und Dr. Ian Lewis. Der bei DSM Nutritional Products, Basel arbeitende Werner Bonrath wird für seine wegweisenden Forschungen auf den Gebieten der Vitamine, Carotenoide und Duftstoffe geehrt, welche stets auch auf eine industrielle Anwendung ausgerichtet waren. Dr. Ian Lewis von der Novartis Pharma AG, Basel erhält den Preis unter anderem für seine Arbeiten zur Synthese von SOM230 - Pasireotide, der ersten durch EMEA im 2012 anerkannten, direkt die Hypophyse ansprechenden Therapie des Cushing-Syndroms.

 

Der mit 7'000 dotierte KGF-SCS Industrial Investigator Award wird an Dr. Mark Roger-Evans, von der Roche Basel verliehen, welcher während den letzten 16 Jahren wichtige Beiträge für erfolgreiche Produktimplementierungen lieferte.

Die Preise werden alle anlässlich des SCG Gala-Dinners vom 5. September 2013 in Lausanne verliehen. Am Swiss Chemical Society Fall Meeting vom 6. September 2013 an der EPFL Lausanne werden alle Preisgewinner ihre Arbeiten in Vorträgen präsentieren und der wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft für Fragen zur Verfügung stehen.

You are kindly invited to consider designing and submitting your proposals for a new EuCheMS logo, along the lines as presented and discussed at the General Assembly in Dublin.

In brief, they are as follows:
1) The logo has to be easily and immediately associated with chemical and molecular sciences.
2) The logo shall represent European dimension of EuCheMS.
3) The logo shall bring across a message about chemistry in a positive sense, including its progress and its contribution to solving societal challenges, mainly in research and in education associated with it.
4) The logo shall be easily adaptable for Divisions, Working Parties and the European Young Chemists Network.
5) The logo shall be easily reproducible in black and white.

Knowledge, curiosity, imagination, European collaboration are the key words that go with it.

At this stage, a rough sketch of a logo is sufficient. The details will be defined later on.

The evaluation of the proposals will be conducted by a jury formed by members of EuCheMS.

The «Platform Chemistry» of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT), the Swiss Chemical Society (SCS) and the Swiss Society for Food and Environmental Chemistry (SSFEC) announce the «2013 SCNAT/SCS Chemistry Travel Award». 

The award includes a contribution of CHF 750 towards the cost of active participation in the form of a poster or oral contribution at an international conference in field of the chemical sciences. A total of 45 awards will be made to selected doctoral students from Swiss Universities and Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology. Selection will be based primarily on scientific accomplishment and on the submitted conference abstract.

Applications must include:

1. Conference announcement

2. Scientific conference abstract

3. Curriculum vitae and list of publications

4. Signed letter of support from the PhD advisor

The application package (as a single PDF file in the above order) should be sent via email to before the deadline of March 31, 2013.
