Solvias research team receives the “Sandmeyer Award 2012”
The Swiss Chemical Society has awarded the “Sandmeyer Award 2012” to a research team from Solvias. Working for Sanofi Pasteur, the team developed an innovative, efficient and fully synthetic process for protoporphyrin IX, a precursor of hemoglobin.
A five-person research team from the service company Solvias has received the “Sandmeyer Award 2012 – sponsored by KPMG.” “We are honoring the conceptually innovative and industrially developed synthesis of porphyrins,” says Prof. E. Kündig, President of the Swiss Chemical Society (SCS), justifying the decision. “These preparations are completely free from impurities of animal origin, which represents a significant improvement in the production of protoporphyrin IX derivatives.”
The research team is made up of Dr. Dirk Spielvogel, Dr. Dietmar Flubacher, Dr. Andreas Boudier, Markus Müller and Dr. Pierre Martin from the Chemical Development and Catalysis department at Solvias AG. Solvias is one of the leading service companies involved in analysis and synthesis relating to the development and production of pharmaceutical ingredients. Friedrich-Miescher-Award 2023: Call for applications!
To commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the discovery of nucleic acids, the MCB section of LS2 (formerly Swiss Society for Molecular and Cellular Biosciences/Swiss Society for Biochemistry) has created the Friedrich-Miescher-Award. The prize is intended to honour young biochemists and is donated by the Friedrich-Miescher-Institute in Basel.
Please feel encouraged to nominate candidates for the award. The guidelines for applications are listed below.
The submission deadline is Ocotber 31st, 2022.
Please follow the guidelines below.
Application guidelines
- The Friedrich-Miescher-Award may be awarded once every year to a young scientist for outstanding achievements in biochemistry.
- Candidates are eligible who have not yet reached the age of 40 years (for women with children 42) on January 1st of the award year.
For female candidates with children, the age limit is automatically extended by one year per child. For male candidates with children, the age limit can be extended by 6 weeks per child, or the actual time taken off as parental leave if this is longer than 6 weeks. The maximal extension for men is 6 months. - Preference will be given to candidates with a documented record of independent research.
- The scientific work must have been carried out in Switzerland or by Swiss scientists abroad.
Applications or nominations, including a letter stating the relevance of the candidate's scientific work, his/her CV, list of publications, and embedded links to the four most relevant publications should be submitted by Ocotber 31st, 2022 by e-mail as a single PDF file to the secretary of the Molecular and Cellular Biosciences section of LS2: Prof. Monica Gotta, Molecular and Cellular Biosciences section of LS2,
Award Ceremony
The Award ceremony will take place on the February 15-16, 2023, at the LS2 Annual Meeting 2023, University of Zurich, Irchel Campus.
