New Name, Acronym and Logo of EuChemS

EuChemS changes its name and the logo and will, from now on, operate as European Chemical Society, EuChemS (former name: European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences, EuCheMS). The official launch of the new name, acronym and logo will be made at the EuChemS Chemistry Congress in August 2018 in Liverpool.

Submit your abstract for the ISPTS, 6.-11. November 2018 Muttenz, Basel

The International Symposium on Persistent Toxic Substances (ISPTS) is a well‐known international conference series hosted in prominent academic institutions around the globe.
Persistent Toxic Substances (PTS) are receiving worldwide attention due to their high resistance to degradation from abiotic and biotic factors, high mobility, high bioaccumulation, and long‐term toxicity to the environment and human health. The ISPTS provides the primary platform for scientists, experts and students working on PTC to discuss and exchange information on environmental processes and toxicity, as well as on the development of innovative technologies for contamination control and remediation of PTS (including organic & metal-organic compounds, and so called "micro-pollutants").

The Symposium will focus on, but will not be limited to, the following themes:

1. 　Sources, transport and fate of PTS
2. 　Emerging contaminants of concern
3. 　Toxicology and eco-toxicology of PTS
4. 　Analytical and bioanalytical methods
5. 　Fate and Toxicity Modeling
6. 　Risk assessment of PTS
7. 　Mitigation and remediation of PTS
8. 　Environmental pollution and health
9. 　Tribute sessions to the lifework of Prof. Karl Fent

Building on the great success of the previous ISPTS held annually since 2004, the 2018 edition of the ISPTS will add the FHNW to the prominent list of hosting organizations and underline the pioneering role Switzerland takes in PTS research / legislation (i.e. micropollutants). Further, it will be the opportunity for a scientific inauguration of the brand new FHNW campus. The number of participants is limited to 400. The conference is accompanied by a social program on 10./11. November.

Open position @ETHZ: Dozent/in Chemie (100%)

Das Departement für Chemie und Angewandte Biowissenschaften (D-CHAB) ist eine autonome Organisationseinheit innerhalb der ETH Zürich und zählt mit über 50 Professuren zu den grössten Einheiten. Seine fünf Institute, das Infozentrum und der HCI-Shop zeichnen für eine international hoch anerkannte Lehre und Forschung in den Bereichen Chemie, Chemieingenieur-Wissenschaften sowie pharmazeutische Wissenschaften verantwortlich. Die Stelle ist einer Professur innerhalb des Labors für Anorganische Chemie unterstellt.

Im Rahmen einer Nachfolgeregelung (Pensionierung des jetzigen Stelleninhabers) suchen wir auf Anfang 2019 oder nach Vereinbarung eine Persönlichkeit als

Dozent/in Chemie (100%)  

Das Aufgabengebiet als Dozent/in umfasst das Konzipieren und Halten von Basis-Vorlesungen in den chemischen Wissenschaften für Bachelor-Studierende in den Studiengängen Chemie und Chemieingenieurwesen sowie in den Interdisziplinären Naturwissenschaften. Dazu kommen Service-Vorlesungen in Chemie für Studierende der Bachelor-Studiengänge Pharmazie, Biologie, Materialwissenschaften, Gesundheitswissenschaften und Technologie und Umweltnaturwissenschaften. Begleitend zu diesen Vorlesungen werden Übungen und Tutorate durchgeführt.

Im Rahmen der Öffentlichkeitsarbeit werden vom D-CHAB pro Jahr ca. 10 Chemie-Experimentalvorlesungen an Schulen durchgeführt. Zu den Aufgaben des Kandidaten/der Kandidatin gehört es, diese langjährige Tradition fortzusetzen.

Für die Bewältigung dieser sehr interessanten, vielfältigen und anspruchsvollen Aufgaben werden neben einem Hochschulabschluss in Chemie auch praktische Erfahrungen in Pädagogik und Didaktik vorausgesetzt. Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen in universitären Studiengängen sind ebenfalls willkommen. Die Kenntnis und Entwicklung innovativer, moderner Lehrmethoden in den oben benannten Aufgabenbereichen sind dabei ausdrücklich erwünscht. Belastbarkeit, Sozialkompetenz und Flexibilität sind weitere unabdingbare Voraussetzungen für eine erfolgreiche Tätigkeit in einem international geprägten akademischen Umfeld. Des Weiteren bringen Sie ausgezeichnete Deutsche und Englische Sprachkenntnisse mit (mündlich und schriftlich). Wir erwarten ein hohes Mass an Selbständigkeit und Eigeninitiative sowie den aktiven Aufbau von Netzwerken im Bereich der Lehre mit internen und externen Stellen.
