MipTec 2014
«Translating Science into Drugs»
September 23-25, 2014
Congress Center Basel

MipTec is Europe’s leading event for Drug Discovery and Life Sciences Research.

Discovering and developing new and better drugs for patients requires the collaboration of an extraordinary number of specialists across many disciplines and organizations. MipTec 2014 introduces new topical forums to cover an even broader range of these disciplines: Infectious diseases, drug discovery information management, and clinical development.

As a global hub of pharmaceutical research and development, Basel offers the perfect setting to bridge the gap between the academic life sciences, early drug discovery, and clinical drug development. MipTec 2014 aims to achieve this by providing a platform for networking and scientific exchange for academic and industrial scientists.

With more than 100 exhibitors presenting state-of-the-art equipment and services to advance biomedical research, more than 100 scientific presentations, and more than 100 poster exhibitors, delegates will get expert insights into most recent developments and experiences in all dimensions of drug discovery.  Delegates will also have the opportunity to discuss strategic and business oriented issues and learn about career options in many of the exceptional satellite focused sessions.

August 31 - September 4, 2014,
WOW Convention Center Instanbul, Turkey

The biannual European Chemistry Congresses (ECC) series has established itself as the pre-eminent scientific event for the European chemical community and their guests from abroad. For the 5th congress in this series, the Turkish Chemical Society has invited EuCheMS to come to Istanbul.

Once again, the ECC will provide an opportunity to demonstrate the strength and the problem-solving capabilities of European chemistry both in academia and industry. Progress in curiosity-driven and applied chemistry is an essential element of innovation as well as for dealing with the formidable challenges of our century. The latest progress in all areas of chemistry will be presented by eminent Plenary and Topic keynote speakers from all over the world, as well as a great number of oral contributions and posters.

Heilbronner-Hückel Lecture Tour of Paul Knochel in Switzerland from May 4-7, 2015

The Heilbronner-Hückel Lecture Series was implemented in 2009 with the first series in 2010 together with the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh). The annual series takes place alternatively in Switzerland and Germany.

Program 2015: Prof Paul Knochel, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München

«Polyfunctional Organometallics for Organic Synthesis»

  • Monday, May 4: ETH Zürich (host Peter Chen)
  • Tuesday, May 5: EPFL Lausanne (host Jieping Zhu)
  • Wednesday, May 6: University of Bern (host Philippe Renaud)
  • Thursday, May 7: University of Basel (host Andreas Pfaltz)

The series is named after the chemists Edgar Heilbronner, born in Munich in 1921 and passed away in Herrliberg in 2006, and Erich Hückel, born in Berlin 1896 and died in Marburg in 1980.

Edgar Heilbronner emigrated together with his wife to Switzerland because of the Nazi regimes and studied chemistry in Zurich at the ETH where he also habilitated later on. In 1968 we changed to University of Basel.
Erich Hückel studied physics and mathematics at the University of Göttingen and habilitated at ETH Zurich as well.

Past Lecture Tours

2010    Jürgen Troe, Max Planck Institut, Göttingen
2011 Andreas Pfaltz, University of Basel
2012 Joachim Sauer, Humbold University Berlin
2014 Stefan Matile, University of Geneva
2015 Paul Knochel, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München

Nominations for one of the eight SCS scientific awards 2015 have to be submitted by end of September 2014.

Academic Awards

Werner Prize, CHF 10,000 and medal in bronze

The Werner Prize is awarded to a promising young Swiss scientist or scientist working in Switzerland for  outstanding independent chemical research. At the time of the award the candidate may not be a tenured professor or someone in a higher position in industry, and should be younger than 40. The prize is awarded annually.

Grammaticakis-Neumann Prize, CHF 5,000

The Grammaticakis-Neumann Prize is awarded to a promising young scientist for outstanding independent research in photochemistry, photophysics or molecular photobiology. At the time of the award the candidate may not be a tenured professor or a person in a higher position in industry, and should be younger than 40. The prize is awarded annually.

Balmer Prize, CHF 2,000 for individuals and CHF 2,000 for the school’s chemistry department or CHF 3,000 for a group and CHF 1,000 for the school’s chemistry department and medal in bronze

The Balmer Prize is awarded to a teacher working in Switzerland at high school (gymnasium) level for innovation in chemistry teaching. The innovation must be easily applicable in current teaching and the costs for materials must be modest. The candidate may not make any claim to copyright in the innovation. The prize is awarded annually.
