Smart receptors on cell surfaces
Your body is a fine-tuned system of interactions between billions of cells. Each cell has tiny receptors that enable it to sense its environment, so it can adapt to new situtations. Robert Lefkowitz and Brian Kobilka are awarded the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for groundbreaking discoveries that reveal the inner workings of an important family of such receptors: G-protein–coupled receptors.

Balmer Preis 2012 an Marc Montangero verliehen
Anlässlich des Dinners des VSN Zentralkurses Chemie für Sekundarstufenlehrer/innen wurde am 09.10.12 in Zürich der Balmer Preis 2012 an Herrn Marc Montangero, Gymnase de Morge und der Haute Ecole Pédagogique de Lausanne, überreicht.
Der Balmer Preis ist eine mit 4'000 CHF und einer Bronzemedaille dotierte Auszeichnung für Lehrer/innen der Sekundarstufe II (Gymnasium) und wird jährlich seit 2010 verliehen.
Marc Montangero wurde für seine wöchentliche, pädagogisch hervorragend aufgebaute und leicht verständliche Internetshow über Chemie während des Internationalen Jahres der Chemie ausgezeichnet. Überreicht wurde der Preis von Prof. Helma Wennemers von der ETH Zürich.

«Le message d’une chimie en lien avec la vie courante ne disparaitra pas avec la fin de l’année [IYC 2011]: M. Montangero s’est engagé à faire perdurer son site. Ainsi, de nombreux collègues pourront encore s’inspirer de ses démonstrations. Mon lycée a par exemple démarré la mise en pratique de nombreuses démonstrations prises sur le site de chimie www.chimie.ch/nuls pour animer de petits ateliers.»

Minutes of the 22nd SCS General Assembly
The SCS hold it's 22nd General Assembly on the occasion of the Fall Meeting 2012 at ETH Zurich on September 13, 2012.
All recommendations of the BoD were approved and confimed the strategy of the society.
As new board mebers were elected:
