Early ADMET (absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity) profiling in small molecule drug discovery has significantly reduced later-stage failures due to inadequate pharmacokinetics and safety liabilities over the past two to three decades. A wealth of knowledge on design strategies to address common ADMET issues has been compiled in "The Medicinal Chemist’s Guide to Solving ADMET Challenges" co-authored by experts from academia and industry.

In this Flash Talk, Patrick Schnider, a seasoned medicinal chemist with over 25 years of experience and the editor of this book, will discuss the challenges of capturing and retrieving medicinal chemistry knowledge and how these have been addressed in the guide.

Patrick Schnider has over 26 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D as a medicinal chemist and team leader. He is an inventor of seven drugs that entered clinical development, including the marketed neurokinin 1 receptor antagonist netupitant. At F. Hoffmann-La Roche, he received multiple awards for his contributions. He has also served as CEO ad interim and board chairman at Rejuveron Life Sciences.

Patrick studied chemistry at the University of Basel and completed a Ph.D. in chemistry at the Max-Planck-Institut für Kohlenforschung followed by postdoctoral studies at Caltech. He has held leadership roles in the Basel Chemical Society and the University of Basel's chemistry alumni board. His work at Roche included developing global ADMET profiling strategies and the Roche medicinal chemistry knowledge database, which inspired his role in editing "The Medicinal Chemist’s Guide to Solving ADMET Challenges".

Hosted by Drug Hunter's Director of Industry Research & Relations Dennis Koester, Ph.D.
