Subventionen beeinträchtigen die Biodiversität
Mehr als 160 Subventionen schaden der Biodiversität in der Schweiz, wie eine Studie der WSL und des Forums Biodiversität der SCNAT zeigt. Dabei hat sich die Schweiz verpflichtet, biodiversitätsschädigende Subventionen bis 2020 anzupassen oder abzuschaffen. Weiter

Junge Medienschaffende recherchierten, schrieben und filmten während drei Monaten über ein wissenschaftliches Thema. Mit einem Public-Voting küren die Akademien der Wissenschaften Schweiz nun den besten Beitrag. Stimmen Sie bis zum 6. September ab. Weiter
Schaden für Bildung, Forschung und Innovation
Die Schweizer Hochschulen und Organisationen der Forschungs- und Innovationsförderung wie die Akademien lehnen die Volksinitiative «Für eine massvolle Zuwanderung» ab. Die Initiative gefährdet die Rahmenbedingungen des Denk- und Werkplatzes Schweiz. Weiter
"Die Schweiz ist eine Weltraumnation"
Das Swiss Committee on Space Research der SCNAT hat einen Bericht veröffentlicht, der eine Übersicht über die Schweizer Aktivitäten im Weltraum gibt. Renato Krpoun, Leiter der Abteilung Raumfahrt des Staatssekretariats für Bildung, Forschung und Innovation SBFI, nimmt dazu Stellung und betont die Bedeutung der Zusammenarbeit von Wissenschaft und Industrie. Die Prioritäten Forschungsthemen für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung
Unter der Leitung der SCNAT entwickelt die Initiative für Nachhaltigkeitsforschung prioritäre Schwerpunktthemen für die Forschung für nachhaltige Entwicklung in der Schweiz. Namhafte Expertinnen und Experten gaben der Forschungsagenda anlässlich des Review-Meetings nun sehr gute Noten. Vor allem der systemische Ansatz wurde gelobt. Gleichzeitig wurde die Autorenschaft ermutigt, einen noch stärkeren Fokus auf die Frage nach möglichen Veränderungspfaden zu legen. Weiter
Wie Jugendliche die Faszination für die Natur darstellen
Mit welchem Sujet lässt sich die Schönheit und Vielfältigkeit der Natur auf ein Blatt Papier bringen? Wie kann ich mit meiner Zeichnung zum Nachdenken anregen? Diese Fragen haben sich Jugendliche beim Umwelt-Zeichnungswettbewerb «Faszination Natur» 2020 gestellt. 3921 Schülerinnen und Schüler von 286 Schulen aus der ganzen Schweiz nahmen teil. Das Forum Biodiversität der SCNAT war in der Jury vertreten und vergab einen Sonderpreis. Weiter
Schweizer Arten vor dem Aus
Das Forum Biodiversität Schweiz der SCNAT hat ein Buch über das stille Sterben von Pflanzen- und Tierarten in der Schweiz herausgegeben. Entstanden sind Geschichten über faszinierende Pflanzen und Tiere und über die Menschen, die sich für deren Rettung einsetzen. Sie zeigen das Ausmass des menschengemachten Massensterbens auf, aber auch, wie sich dieses stoppen lässt. Weiter
ScienceComm 2020 - Emotionen in der Wissenschaft
Gefühle durchdringen alles – auch die Wissenschaft – und sind deswegen schwer fassbar. Was, wenn nicht nur Fähigkeiten Entscheidungsprozesse bestimmen, sondern auch Emotionen? The fair, initially founded by the Swiss Chemical Society in 1956 in Basel, moved to Lausanne as complementing location in the western part of Switzerland in 2017. ILMAC Lausanne is organized for the third time and has established itself as an important event that provides knowledge exchange platforms for the whole laboratory and process chemistry community.

Winners of the Helvetica Prize of the Swiss Chemical Society 2020
Helvetica and the Swiss Chemical Society are proud to announce the 2020 winners of the new Helvetica Prize of the Swiss Chemical Society for the best published papers of PhD/Postdocs 2019/20 in Helvetica Chimica Acta. The prize is endowed with CHF 1'000 for the winner and CHF 500 for the runner up.

Information Video "Roadmap for chemistry research infrastructures"
Objectives and Mandate
The Swiss Roadmap for Research Infrastructures is a planning instrument for research infrastructures updated every four years. The State Secretariate for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) would like to strengthen the the view of the research community throughout the process leading to the Swiss roadmap.
Therefore, SERI gave a mandate to the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) to produce discipline specific roadmaps by March 2021. These disciplinary roadmaps will provide insights for decision-making on the allocation of university and federal funding for costly research infrastructures over the period 2025–2028.
Process Leading to the Chemistry Roadmap
Representatives from all Swiss universities, institutions of the ETH domain, and universities of applied sciences were invited to join the Chemistry Round Table.
Proposals for research infrastructures (RI) were collected and further elaborated in dedicated working groups. The criteria for the selection were:
- RI that will be open to the entire research community in Switzerland
- Large RI that are not affordable to a single department/university

Winners of the Best Poster Presentation Awards at the SCS Fall Meeting 2020
