The conference is one in a series of meetings of chemists who share an interest in understanding the mechanisms by which chemical transformations take place, and identify the reactive intermediates that occur in the course of these transformations. ISRIUM 2018 seeks to bring together on Monte Verità practitioners from different fields in chemistry and adjoining disciplines ranging from molecular biology to materials science, who share a mechanistic interest.

The program will consist of the approved mix of plenary talks, topical sessions and poster exhibition.
The meeting is organised in collaboration with the Swiss Institute of Particle Physics (CHIPP) and the NCCR MARVEL (Computational Design and Discovery of Novel Materials). They all together guarantee an exciting conference covering physics at its best.

Four high school chemistry teachers mainly from the canton of Vaud take turn in presenting simple chemistry demonstrations to be shown in the classroom. No theory involved.

BaselArea.swiss and CSEM with their partners Toolpoint for Lab Science join forces to organize the Basel Microfluidics and Microenvironment Workshop at Basel Life. This Forum builds up from the experience of two successful years to provide critical technological insights and latest updates from the global microfluidics industry for applications in the life sciences.

LaBiotech is back to Basel, one of the most vibrant biotech hubs in Europe, to present another edition of Refresh, a meetup-style event which aims to gather the local biotech leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and investors in a free and “down-to-earth” setting. This time around, two well-known players of the local biotech ecosystem are invited to share their stories and lessons learned along the way.

The Plastics Update Conference 2018 brings a intro session and three themes presented by international speakers that offer insights for moving the plastics industry into a next phase of sustainable growth.

Im Fokus stehen die Möglichkeiten der hochauflösenden Elektronenmikroskopie (EM), insbesondere die cryo-EM, deren Erfinder im Jahr 2017 den Nobelpreis für Chemie erhielten. Die millionenschweren Instrumente am C-CINA bieten dabei bisher ungeahnte Möglichkeiten. Neuartige, nanoliter-kleine Probenaufbereitungen, Untersuchungen von Proteinstrukturen für die Medikamentenentwicklung und eine kurze Führung vervollständigen diese Veranstaltung.

An der Tagung «Frauen in Technik und Informatik – Potenzial nutzen» werden 14 Projektleiterinnen und Projektleiter über ihre Erfahrungen mit geschlechtsspezifischen Initiativen berichten. The United Nations has designated 2019 the International Year of the Periodic Table (IYPT), marking 150 years since Dmitri Mendeleev published his groundbreaking arrangement of the elements.

In honor of IYPT, this event focuses on data visualization and design in science, with specific focus on the periodic table. Science and data visualization experts will join us to discuss the role of outstanding design in rendering highly complex information accessible and engaging.

As 11 February is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we will welcome a panel of female science and design experts.

The event is open to the public.
