(Materials) Technology innovation has been a cornerstone of medical advancement. My research group connects fundamentally new concepts deeply rooted in science and engineering with tangible impact, transforming ideas into solutions that address critical challenges in healthcare. Key contributions include the development of Nanoglue, a bioactive nanoparticle-based glue platform with tissue-regenerative and antimicrobial properties, and AnastoSeal, a novel surgical sealant technology for robust and leak-free anastomoses. Complementing these advancements, iSoldering, an intelligent laser tissue soldering platform with integrated nanothermometry, offers precision and sealing performance across open, endoscopic, and robotic surgical applications. Beyond surgery, our research encompasses therapeutic strategies such as PreXision, a nanomaterial-based radioenhancer enabling precision photon and proton radiotherapy, and EndoStop, a mechanical solution addressing reversible contraception and the prevention of endometriosis. This presentation will explore the interdisciplinary approaches underlying these innovations.
