With this step, the representatives of the SCS and the GDCh are renewing and strengthening the cooperation that has formally existed for decades.

GDCh and SCS have a shared interest to engage in scientific cooperation, communication and exchange on matters of mutual interest and concern in the field of chemistry and related areas of knowledge for the benefit of both the German and Swiss chemistry communities. Toward that end, GDCh and SCS enter a five (5)-year MOU, to collaborate in the following areas:

  • Fostering connections: GDCh and SCS will encourage participation and engagement in activities designed for memberships (including provision of CCS and GDCh meeting and conference registrations at member rates), the broader scientific community, or the general public by mutually promoting relevant events and resources.
  • Supporting global research community: GDCh and SCS will jointly support the participation of their members, especially young scientists, in scientific conferences or symposia of GDCh and SCS, respectively, based on the approval of the governing bodies of the respective organizations.
  • Providing programming: GDCh and SCS will organize and deliver joint activities, bi-laterally and working with other societies, especially the European Chemical Society EuChemS. Areas of focus include all fields of chemistry, sustainability, AI in chemistry, frontier research.
  • Honouring outstanding scientists: GDCh and SCS will continue the joint Heilbronner Hückel Lecture which is awarded to outstanding scientists from both countries.

Planning of cooperative activities will be facilitated via virtual and in-person meetings, when possible, with progress evaluated annually.
