From April 21 to 26, 20 high school students and apprentices took part in the final of the Swiss Chemistry Olympiad. In the laboratories of ETH Zurich, they competed in experiments. Four Swiss and four Liechtenstein students won tickets to the United Arab Emirates where they will represent Switzerland and Liechtenstein at the International Chemistry Olympiad in July.

The four Swiss winners are:

- Ruben Locher, Upper Valais Vocational School (VS)
- Stanisław Bektaş, International School of Schaffhausen (SH)
- Carl-Philipp Cachej, MNG Rämibühl (ZH)
- Maya Post, Cantonal School Hohe Promenade (ZH)

Ruben Locher, who is training to be a chemical laboratory technician at Lonza, was the only professional to make it to first place in the final.

All four gold winners will receive the Swiss Chemical Society's sponsorship prize of CHF 500 per person and a place at the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). Ruben Locher, Stanisław Bektaş and Carl-Philipp Cachej will be traveling to the desert for chemistry for the second time: They took part in the IChO in Saudi Arabia last year.
