SCS Partnerships: five companies joined the program in the past months
In 2020 the SCS implemented the SCS Partnership program as a new strategic tool to strengthen the collaboration with industrial partners and to align the Society’s activities to the community’s requirements. Starting with 13 partner companies in spring 2020 the program includes 24 partner as of February 2023.
Please contact the SCS Head Office if you are interested in a SCS Partnership as well (CHF 3’000 p.a.).
Recent SCS Parnerships Assignments
In the past 12 months five companies signed the partnership agreement and joined the program. We are happy an proud to welcome the following companies:
- Arxada AG, Basel: global specialty chemicals business
- Bachem AG, Bubendorf: manufacture of peptides and oligonucleotides
- Carbogen Amcis, Bubendorf: drug development and commercialisation services
- Firmenich SA, Satigny: fragrances, flavors and ingredients
- IBM Research Europe, Zürich: cutting-edge research for tomorrow's information technology
SCS Partnership Program
Make the difference as an Institutional Partner through
> Active involvement in the strategic alignment of the society (board-, committee- and jury-membership)
> Becoming Industrial Science Award Program Stakeholders (former SISF Program)
> VIP Guests/Delegates at the Swiss Chemistry Science Night
… and also enjoying the benefits of a “classical” corporate membership:
> Free CHIMIA subscription, publication of Company Reports in CHIMIA, advertising at reduced rates, and logo presence on SCS documents (print, digital)

Welcome Message 2023 from the New SCS Academy Manager Sarah Schmitz
Dear members of the SCS,
Having now worked as an assistant in the SCS Head-Office for over 10 years, I am looking forward to a new additional challenge by taking over the management of the SCS Academy from Esther Wolff as of the beginning of 2023. The SCS Academy of the Swiss Chemical Society (SCG) is a very important part of the education courses in various fields of chemical and pharmaceutical sciences.
We do not only offer established courses in analytical sciences (spectroscopy, separation techniques, quality assurance and information management), but also new courses in the fields of laboratory basics and environmental sciences. From beginners to experts, all level of users are within our target group. We offer our courses in collaboration with industrial partners to ensure the relevance of application.
I’m really look forward to this new challenge and I hope I’ll be able to expand the Academy’s activities in numerous directions.

Contributing your time and energy to the IChO will also bring you in touch with dozens of co-minded volunteers and up to 350 brightest minds in Chemistry. It will be rewarded by team building activities for volunteers and a work certificate you can use for your CV.
Your expenses like accommodation, meals, and transport expenses will be covered. Above all, it will be ten days of fun and science feasts organized by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology – ETH Zurich and its partners.
Please register here, if you want to be a part of IChO 2023
If you have any questions, send us an email to
The International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) is an annual international competition for talented young students in secondary schools and colleges. The first IChO took place in Prague in 1968. Since 1987, Switzerland has sent delegations to more than 30 IChOs but has never been a host country itself. The time has come in 2023! The Swiss Chemistry Olympiad Association (SwissChO) and ETH Zurich have been awarded the contract to host the event in Switzerland.

Join IUPAC|CHAINS 2023 and submit your abstract!
We are pleased to invite you to join us in the beautiful city The Hague for IUPAC|CHAINS2023 in August 2023. This conference, which combines the 49th IUPAC World Chemistry Congress and the 11th edition of the Dutch Chemistry Conference CHAINS, will take place from 20 till 25 August.
The theme of the conference is ‘Connecting Chemical Worlds’, and this is exactly what we aim to do. Connecting different disciplines of chemistry and getting academia, industry, junior and senior researchers to share what they love most about this beautiful science and help chemistry in answering the problems of tomorrow.
We hope to present an exciting program with plenary and invited lectures, parallel sessions, poster- and oral presentations. The first six plenary speakers are already announced, and we are excited to receive renowned scientist like Chad Mirkin, Jennifer Thomson and Nicola Spaldin.
