Roche internship in Medicinal CHemistry (RiCH)(12 month)

Logo RocheWho we are

The Basel Medicinal Chemistry group is an integral part of the Roche Drug Discovery engine and represents how we innovate healthcare through the invention of differentiated medicines for treating diseases for unmet medical needs. This 12 month internship program integrates seamlessly into University degree programs and therefore we offer the most talented chemistry students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry.

During the internship you will:

  • be led by a chemistry laboratory head or senior laboratory associate and be part of a team involved in lead generation and/or lead optimization projects synthesizing novel molecules for innovative biological targets
  • conduct laboratory research and work in a small team composed of 1 – 3 research associates to become experienced in the use of modern organic chemistry synthetic methods and purification technologies
  • develop structure activity and structure property relationships via analyzing computed and measured multi-dimensional optimization parameters
  • use electronic laboratory notebooks to accurately document your research results
  • receive complementary education with an especially tailored tuition program through which you will deepen your understanding in organic and medicinal chemistry and improve your presentation skills

Those demonstrating excellence in these fields will also be invited to apply for an EFMC-Roche studentship award.

Who you are

You’re someone who wants to influence your own development. You’re looking for a company where you have the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Where a job title is not considered the final definition of who you are, but the starting point.

We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong enthusiasm for Organic and Medicinal Chemistry and is interested in performing state of the art research in the pharmaceutical industry.

You are/have:

  • a chemistry student in a University who in the 2018-2019 academic year will be in the
  • penultimate or last year of study or at the “Year in Industry” junction of your studies
  • the ambition to join a multi-cultural team which strives to bring medicines to patients
  • goal-oriented team-worker and relish working in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment
  • passionate and pro-active about your further education in the area of organic/medicinal chemistry and may be planning to start a PhD after your degree

International Congress of Young Chemists "YoungChem2017" is the 15th edition of a successful event organised annually by students of Warsaw University of Technology.

From its very beginning the Congress of Young Chemists - YoungChem has been an event organised by students and for students (including M.Sc. students, Ph.D. students, Ph.D.-s etc).

Its main goal is to give an opportunity for young, skilled and ambitious scientists to present to international audience their areas of research, attend lectures by famous and respectable professors, meet industry representatives and, of course, integrate. Organisers try to create a comfortable atmosphere during the conference, keeping at the same time its high scientific level, all of which makes each YoungChem an event to remember.

A new doctoral programme at EPFL for tomorrow's entrepreneurs

170301 EPFLinnovators programme

EPFLinnovators is a new programme designed to develop the innovation potential of EPFL’s PhD students. The programme, which is geared towards the non-academic sector, is supported by the European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme, which is part of the Horizon 2020 framework.

One of EPFL’s three missions is to promote the transfer of knowledge from research to industry. However, too many PhD students wait until the end of their studies to start considering career opportunities in industry or the creation of a start-up. That’s why EPFL is launching EPFLinnovators, a programme that will provide new excellent PhD students with the training, experience and advice they need to become successful entrepreneurs.

Experience in the non-academic sector

36 participants will be selected among the PhD candidates of EPFL’s 19 doctoral programmes to join EPFLinnovators. They will take additional classes and do a six-month to two-year work placement in a company. They will emerge from the programme with the scientific and entrepreneurial skills they need to become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs.

After completing the programme, the PhD students will continue to receive start-up related support from EPFL, including contacts with investors and personalized guidance at EPFL Innovation Park. That’s because the programme aims not only to bring out the PhD students’ entrepreneurial spirit, but also to provide them with the tools they need to create successful start-ups after finalizing their PhD studies.

The EPFLinnovators programme received the financial support (€3.7 million) of European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Horizon 2020 programme, which covers part of the PhD students’ salary for up to 48 months.

Applications will be accepted from 1 November 2017 to 15 January 2018 and from 1 February 2018 to 16 April 2018. 18 applicants will be selected during each of the two rounds to fill a total of 36 places. All applications must be submitted online. More information is available on the Doctoral School's webpage.
